Improve Your Childs Teeth And Win

17 June 2008

A British Dental Health Foundation survey of 1,000 people found 20% of children under the age of five are left to brush their teeth unsupervised.  A quarter of parents erroneously believed children do not need to brush twice a day, and 67% thought brushing for one minute was sufficient for a child.

GUM is ready to fix the problem with their range of children's toothbrushes

A new range of GUM children's brushes which start with a parents brush, designed for parents and carers of children aged 6-24 months. The brush has a long, slim handle to allow an adult to reach the child's mouth, and as the brush head is rubber edged and the bristles extra gentle, it will tenderly care for a baby's gums and newly erupting teeth.

There are a further four brushes in the range which progress the child towards independent brushing from around six years of age. GUM Critters has ultra soft rounded and tapered bristles to safely and gently clean young teeth and gums. This is followed by GUM Critters Grip which features a rubber character image which fits securely into young hands without slipping and a fun suction cup to allow the youngster to stand the brush on the edge of the sink or bath at any time during brushing. GUM has a Garfield the Cat brush (and accompanying tooth paste) which features super tip bristles to clean in hard to reach posterior regions and also has a soft rubber handle to provide superior control for the maturing youngster. Finally, at the age of six, kids can progress onto the GUM Kid's Technique Toothbrush, which is designed to help develop good brushing technique. The handle features a unique sculpted ‘quad grip’ which means the child has to correctly position the brush at the right 45 degree angle for the most efficient brushing.

GUM gives more great tips

GUM also concurs with the British Dental Health Foundation that teaching children how to brush their teeth can not be started too young. They agree that twice-daily brushing with a pea sized amount of a fluoride paste should begin as soon as the baby teeth begin to erupt and will need to be carried out or at least supervised by an adult until the child is around six. Indeed they feel that parents have a vital role to play in encouraging their children to adopt good oral health habits from a young age and ensure that the brushing is both regular and effective, so recommend that they and their children brush at the same time.

The Body Guide has teamed up with GUM Sunstar to offer 30 parents the chance to win toothbrushes for their youngsters. All you need to do is send an email to GUM@thebodyguide.co.uk with your name, address, email and your one step closer to good dental care for your children.
